Aerial Survey – Plane on island with no airfield – August 2015

With thousands of frames captured each week, our cameras get to record a lot of interesting things. When the individual images pass through our ISO9001 quality control process, photogrammetry staff occasionally notice things that stimulate discussion.

How the plane got there…..

Some years back a young pilot overshot the runway on a nearby island and ditched his aircraft in the sea. The plane was later recovered and transported to the local junior school (red-roofed buildings). In days gone by these islands supported a thriving community and active junior school who converted the aircraft into a recreational facility fitted out with seats and gauges, perhaps inspiring the next generation of young pilots?
