Another quick response – March 2012

Outline’s ability to respond to emergency imagery requests was again put to the test with the imaging of floods in the Shepparton area of Victoria. Unfortunately for the flood victims, this is not the first time our team has been called upon to image floods in the area but hopefully the result of being able to capture high resolution imagery under cloud will support future flood modelling and mitigation.  The following sequence of events highlights the responsiveness and short time to deployment:
First call/email: Thurs 1 March 2:28pm
Project confirmed: Thurs 9.28pm
Aircraft mobilised: Fri 2 March 10am
First image acquired: Fri 2 March 12:20pm (under full overcast conditions)  – less than 24 hours
Area – 210km2 @ 25cm resolution
The use the Near Infra-Red band (part of Outline’s standard delivery) greatly assists with the delineation of flooded areas by enhancing the delineation of the water bodies.
