Stereo aerial imagery – November 2012

Outline now delivers orthorectified stereo aerial imagery meaning our customers can now take advantage of the advancement in stereo photogrammetry. Digital elevation models and derived products such as contours can now be generated from stereo aerial imagery.

This is nothing particularly new, and the old hands in the business will recall peering through stereo pairs at hard copy maps to produce contours. What has changed is the evolution of software and processing power allowing computers to do the heavy lifting. With the development of Outlines latest aerial camera technology, the production of rich surface models and contour maps is now a reality. The following illustration shows a mine pit with surface model and contours derived from high resolution imagery (5cm GSD). Of course, there are limitations in acquiring and using this type of data, that’s what Outline is here for.
